Earth Song

Take a look at some of the lyrics of the late great, Michael Jackson's Earth Song.

What about nature's worth It's our
planet's womb What about animals We've turned kingdoms to dust What about elephants Have we lost their trust What about crying whales We're ravaging the seas What about forest trails Burnt despite our pleas

These are all real issues that we have caused over the years. And it goes on to talk about other issues that humans have brought into this world. So why aren't we taking care of our earth?
Essentially, it is our home, and we are responsible for keeping it clean and beautiful to show off to all the "Extra-terrestrial" beings from our neighbouring universes ;)

So far our rep of keeping the world a beautiful place is pretty poor. In our race to be more successful, create new things and make things easier for everyone, we have used and misused some of the most delicate, valuable non-renewable sources.

When I look at my own experiences,
there was once a time when I had considered becoming an environmentalist, because of my interest and dedication in preserving the environment. That dream quickly came to an end because of my even bigger dream of one day owning a Range Rover and I understand that driving a gas-guzzling SUV contradicts my profession of letting people aware of ways that they can help save the atmosphere. But driving one of those beautiful things seems a little more important right now.

Range Rover Sport

But really what are the little things that we aren't doing that have an enormous impact on the state of the world. For starters, I think that because humans have become a more selfish being, that people think that they have the God-given right to decide what's
truly important to them. I'm sad to inform you that your selfishness is going to mean that our children and our grandchildren and every generation to follow our own will have no choice but to live in this world that we, our parents and our grandparents have all helped to destroy.

When did our stewardship end? Why was it suddenl
y accepted to tear down forests and plow over fields? Why is it okay to fill giant holes in the ground with trash? Who approved people to dump waste in our lakes? Why did people find it necessary to put the well-being of the earth's environment in the backseat to all of their amazing technological, experimental and developmental breakthroughs. And of course, I must ask, why did it take SO long to realize what all of our building, driving, factory work, dumping, extracting and removing was doing to our own natural habitat?

It's clear to me that human intervention has negatively affected the biodiversity of our ecosystems. And no one can be blamed more than another. There are an estimated 6,740,000,000 residences of the earth and we simply have not been trying hard enough to take care of it. I must give credit where it is due and I commend every organization, government and program local, international or otherwise for their diligence in working to raise awareness of the current enviro state and how we can help save the earth.

There is always a chance for redemption and there is always an opportunity to save the earth. Become a good STEWARD of the Earth.

  1. This MJ song really relates to Gods creation on earth, and humans destroy it everyday. Many examples are transportation, food, and modern technology. We use gasoline (oil) in most of are uses of transportation, this is present when we take the bus or get a ride. We misusing food due to fact that people are making "healthy" diet foods. But in reality all the nutrients from the food are taken away. For example, drinking skim milk, whats the point, if its only 1%, its mostly water and a little bit of the milk. Humans have to realize that we have to treat earth how God wanted us to treat earth, and to live how he wanted us to live. With all this modern technology, this is not following God's decision of putting us humans on earth. He sent us here to make earth a better place, and so far we have not done that, we have just misused all our resources which will eventually all be gone. Thus, I enjoyed reading this blog, hopefully you comment on mine as well!

  2. Ravennnn, very interesting blog! I really like how you could relate a very famous song by Micheal Jackson to the concerns and well being of the enviornment. It always sad to see God's creations in such a bad state because of us humans and our actions. Raven i know your a good person and you care for the enviorment has always inspired me to change my bad habbits. When I throw my garbage on the floor at lunch you are always there to encourage me not to litter. You remind me that we cannot take advantage of our earth like this and we always have a choice to care.

Range Rovers are not only bad for the enviorment but are also overrated. :)

  3. Raven!
Let me start off my saying how clever it was to relate this topic to a popular song. Who knew Michael Jackson had some David Suzuki in him?! But anyways, you have a strong point. We're spending our lives on this planet, and soon so will our grandchildren and then there's etc... Why would we want to live in a world where the air is thick and mucky, the plants are all dead and the climate is out a line because of Global Warming? The real question is, who COULD live in a world like that?
Like you stated, there are over 6 billion people in this world. We all have a responsibility towards our planet to keep it healthy. I'm very happy that new technology is increasing, and we're developing, but at the same time we have to take into consideration what we're doing. We're getting carried away, that's the problem.
There are many organizations designed to save our planet one step at a time, but I'm afraid that it might be to late. We can only hope it's not, and do our part to save our planet Earth.

  4. Great blog raven!
I liked how you related a Michael Jackson so to your topic, it really grabbed my attention. You have a very strong point in saying that we are not treating our planet how it should be treated and that we must change. I agree with the statement you made whan you said "No one can be blamed more than another." That is very insightful and shows that it is every persons job to take care of the Earth.

    Good Job

Escalades are better than range rovers:)
